Cathy Kalkus

I am passionate about the Montessori School of Alexandria! My three daughters, now adults, are all graduates of this wonderful community. I spent 15 years of my teaching career here at MSA before moving to Arlington County to help create their first public Montessori School. In 2022, after teaching in Arlington’s inclusion class for 14 years, it is an honor for me to return to MSA as Head of School.

At MSA, we foster independence, allowing children to grow at their own pace and follow their unique curiosities. We teach children to be kind to one another and to care about the world around them.

I invite you to visit MSA and see the Montessori Method at work. You will observe students working independently and in groups, deeply engaged in their studies. With the freedom to question and the support to make connections, our students grow up to be confident and self-directed learners. They think critically, work collaboratively, and become adaptable, engaged members of their community.
